At their CES press conference in Las Vegas, Sony today announced an updated version of their SmartWatch 3 with a stainless steel band. The company had initially unveiled the watch last year in Autumn with a plastic band. The specs of the steel edition SmartWatch 3 remains the same as before, which includes a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 resolution Transflective LCD display, an IP68 rating, built-in GPS module, and a microUSB port....

After a few weeks of rumors and a leaked image, Sony has gone ahead and made the purple Xperia Z3 official. The handset is christened “Xperia Z3 Purple Diamond Edition” and will be launched in Hong Kong by the end of January 2015. The new purple colored Xperia Z3 will be available for only HK$ 4,998, which is about HK$ 1000 lower than what it currently retails for in the region....

Sony is working on a new UI for its Xperia devices, and is looking for testers to try out its new take on Android before making it official. The company’s announcement states that its “new Android concept” will bring a fresh take on its user experience. The trial program will be available for Xperia Z3 owners in Sweden, and will start from July 27 and run until September 13. During the trial period, Sony will be collecting usage information and crash reports to further improve the user experience of its software....

Along with the newly announced 6.44 inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the Japanese company also unveiled a successor to their SmartWatch that’s aptly called the SmartWatch 2. What exactly is it? It’s a small Bluetooth enabled screen that you wear on your wrist. It talks to your Android phone to show you missed notifications, incoming calls and texts, and all that jazz. I’ll say this again, all the processing is done on your phone, not the watch itself....

The screen Samsung seem to be in agreement when it comes to the best screen size for this product category. The G o 2 (pictured at top) has a 5.9-inch screen with full HD resolution, while the Note 3 has a 5.7-inch screen with the same 1080p resolution. Size weight Since the two models have roughly the same screen size, the weight is also close. The Galaxy Note is slightly lighter at 168 grams versus the G o 2’s 172 grams....

Sprint’s press release promises “peak wireless speeds” of 60Mbps (real-world speed is likely to be in the 30-40Mbps range; still quite good). Oh, there’s more – HD Voice will roll out in illy Baltimore in the coming weeks, too. You’ll need a phone compatible with Spark to get the faster speeds. Right now, that list is fairly short: the Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 mini, G2, HTC One Max. More Tri-b capable phones are expected this year....

When it rains, it pours. Sony has just announced that they’ve begun pushing out updates for four of their devices: the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Arco S, and the hilariously oversized Z Ultra. The first three devices will get improvements in the camera and battery life department, along with two new gestures for the home button. Long pressing will bring up Google Now, and a double tap will call up the app switcher....

The unprecedented move will see KT and LG Uplus lose their right to use the 28GHz spectrum they won in an auction back in 2018. SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile operator, will have its use time of the spectrum reduced by six months. It will also lose the right to use the spectrum completely unless it builds the 15,000 radio stations that use the spectrum by the end of May next year....

We have already seen Sony’s upcoming Xperia Z3 Compact leak in blurrycam pictures. Today, however, we get the clearest look at the handset yet, thanks to the folks over at Ausdroid who have managed to get their hands on some press shots of the device. The press photos show off the four colors that the Z3 Compact will be available in — Black, White, Red, and Mint. The handset still follows Sony’s OmniBalance design language and looks just like the previous high-end Xperia handsets with only a few minor design tweaks....
