The eligible recipients of SNAP get SNAP benefits, on average, $127 per month per person. The residents of Louisiana, one of the US states, are eligible for SNAP benefits and payments through their purchase card after the payment is deposited in the accounts. The benefits are provided according to the size of the household. Each member of the household is issued a social security number (SSN) and a schedule has been issued by SNAP.  SNAP schedule’s SSN determines when the payments will be distributed to the recipients for May which will be discussed in detail below.

SNAP Schedule Social Security Number

E eligibility determination for SNAP, the household applying for/ participating in the program needs to provide a Social Security Number (SSN) for each household or at least verify that member has applied for it, in case of having no number yet, as a proof of application for SSN. One must have all the numbers furnished if one has more than one number.

By federal regulations, the Department of Public Health Services has the right to use the Social Security Number for the administration of Snap. One must consult Social Security Administration (SSA) if one does not have an SSN or if one is unaware if he has or if he is unable to find one.

SNAP benefits for Louisiana recipients

Louisiana households must meet net and gross income tests to receive benefits according to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family. However, households that are receiving some sort of disability payments or those 60 years of age or above are only required to meet the net income test.

The payment received by Louisiana SNAP recipients depends on the size of the household and also on the countable monthly income money left after all the allowable deductions have been done.

LaCAP

Those Louisiana recipients who are at least 60 years old have a simplified version of SNAP. They receive Supplemental Security Income which is known as Louisiana Combined Application Project or LaCAP. This is not very different from SNAP. Just like SNAP, those households who are eligible for LaCAP will also be receiving a Louisiana Purchase Card and consequently, SNAP benefits and payments will be automatically deposited to their account every month.

Need for SNAP Schedule

As SNAP provides the benefits through a purchase card every month, it is most likely that the payment will be deposited at the start of every month. Even if it does not get deposited at the start of the month, there will be a proper measure of the month days so that the time does not exceed the limit of one month.

Typically, most of the SNAP recipients go for the purchase shortly the day after the payment gets deposited and the benefits are issued. There might occur a shortage of supply due to excessive purchase of basic products like bread, produce, and dairy. Considering the same fact, the Department of Children and Family Services made a wise move. DCFS has changed the SNAP benefits schedule in maintaining the essential supplies within reach and helping retailers.

Role of Social Security Number in determining May’s payment

Generally, from the 5th and 23rd of every month, SNAP benefits are distributed in Louisiana. However, certain changes are made in the SNAP schedule for payment distribution in May. However, elder people or disabled recipients will be receiving their benefits on the same pattern i.e., from 1st through 4th of every month.

The rest of the recipients will receive their SNAP benefits and payment based on their issued Social Security numbers. The last two digits of their Social Security Number will determine their distribution of payment in May. Supplementary Nutrition Assisting Program SNAP is a great initiative by the US Federal Government to assist states, individuals, households, and elderly and disabled recipients. SNAP schedule has been changed to ensure the supplies of basic products. The Social Security number issued to the SNAP participants determines when the SNAP payment will be distributed among the recipients of Louisiana.
