Looks like those rumors about a 6.44 inch 1080p Sony smartphone were true. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Xperia Z Ultra. It’s IP 58 rated, meaning it’s waterproof and dust proof. It’s “the same width as a passport”, which comes out to a hair under 90 mm. It’ll come in three colors: black, white, purple. It weighs 212 grams, it has a Snapdragon 800 under the hood, an 8 megapixel camera, and it runs Android 4.2.2.

Update: The exact specs are 179 mm tall by 92 mm wide by 6.5 mm thick. There’s a 3,000 mAh battery inside, non-removable, which worries me deeply since the phone’s screen is so incredibly large. As for RAM, there’s no official word yet, but I would be shocked if it was less than 2 GB. Price? Nope. When will it be out? Q3, China first. Update: Quote from the BBC: “The new device will go on sale in China, Indonesia and Singapore in July and then in Europe in September.” Update: First hands-on video is up!

As soon as I get more information, I’ll update this article.
