Sony today launched its new Xperia X series of handset in India. While the company has launched three new handsets under its Xperia X brand back at MWC, it is only bringing two of the handsets from the series in India: the Xperia X and Xperia XA.
The Xperia X is the more powerful of the two handsets here. The 7.7mm thin handset packs in a 5-inch Full HD display with Sony’s X-Reality for mobile engine and Dynamic Contrast Enhancement. The front and rear cameras of the phone are its highlight though, with the rear housing a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor with Predictive Hybrid AF and an F/2.0 aperture. The sensor is capable of reaching ISO levels as high as 12800 and can record videos in Full HD resolution. The 13MP selfie camera at the front will ensure that all your selfies pack in plenty of details. Other notable specs of the Xperia X include a microSD card slot, 32GB of built-in storage, Hi-Res audio support, PS4 Remote Play support, and dual-SIM connectivity. All this is powered by a measly 2620mAh battery, which packs Quick Charge support.
The Xperia XA is the more budget friendly of the two handsets. It packs in an edge-to-edge 5-inch 720p display, with a design language that is similar to what the Xperia X has. Inside the Xperia XA is a MediaTek MT6755 Helio 10 chipset, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of storage space. There is also a microSD card slot, dual-SIM connectivity, and a 2,300mAh battery on the phone. The rear of the Xperia XA houses a 1/3″ 13MP Exmor RS shooter with Hybrid Auto-Focus, while the front houses an 8MP shooter with an 88-degree wide-angle lens. Both phones run on Sony’s minimalistic Android skin and Marshmallow, with features like Clear Audio+, Clear Stereo, and Clear Bass built-in. Both handsets will be available in White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold, and Rose Gold colors. Sony is bundling a stereo Bluetooth headset worth Rs. 6990 for customers who pre-order the Xperia X. While the Xperia X and Xperia XA look decent on paper, their pricing is a major bummer. The Xperia X has been priced at Rs. 48,900 in India, while the Xperia XA will retail for Rs. 20,900. At this price, both phones are significantly costlier than their competition. The Xperia X, for its price point, trades blows with the likes of the Galaxy S7 and HTC 10, which are far superior to it in almost every way.
