Sony decided that going with an Xperia Z2 Compact wasn’t necessary, apparently, as the company has indeed done what the leaks and rumors suggested they would, and announced the brand new Xperia Z3 Compact. As you can already guess, it’s a smaller variant, with a few more “compromises” to specs when compared to Sony’s newest flagship model. However, as has been par for the course for Sony, the Compact variant is certainly a worthy device on its own. The Xperia Z3 Compact has just been officially announced at this year’s IFA in Berlin, Germany. While the Xperia Z3 may get the lion’s share of attention after the event has come to an end, that doesn’t mean the Xperia Z3 Compact is a bad phone by any means. In fact, it’s quite the improvement over the first-generation Xperia Compact. Here’s a rundown of the specs:

4.6-inch 720p HD display (1280 x 720)

Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, clocked at 2.5GHz

20.7-megapixel camera

Adreno 330 GPU

2.2MP front-facing camera

2GB of RAM

16GB of built-in storage

microSD card support, up to 128GB

Android 4.4 KitKat

2600mAh battery

IP65/68 certified, dust and water resistant

As soon as we know more about the device, as information is still being introduced from Sony’s event, we’ll update the article accordingly. As far as a release date or pricing goes, Sony hasn’t divulged that bit of information just yet.
